I’m sure you remember when Goran Dragic got hurt back in 2019, and Justise Winslow eventually became the starting point guard for the Heat. He averaged a solid 15 points per game, five and a half rebounds, and five and a half assists, shooting a somewhat above-average 46% from the field and 34% from the three-point line over about 8 games.

This was a great time for me, as many of my friends know me for being the biggest Justise Winslow fanboy. He was a do-it-all kind of guy and was often compared to the likes of Andre Iguodala—at least in my outlook for what I thought he could become. Back then, there really wasn’t much to get excited about with the Heat, so a win for me was seeing Justise getting his opportunity.

That was also around the time we started seeing Bam [Adebayo] on the court as a full-time starter, and we began catching glimpses of what Bam could eventually develop into. Or rather, what he has become, considering that my guy is now a 2x Gold Medalist, 3x NBA All-Star, and 5x All-Defensive Team honoree. Bam has easily solidified himself as a franchise player and a superstar, and he’s being recognized for it around the league. He’s been a cornerstone for the Heat, along with Jimmy Butler, helping the team make it to the NBA Finals twice in the past five years.

Although they haven’t yet achieved the ultimate goal of winning the championship, they’ve shown resilience and what it takes to get there. I believe that with the rest of the crew only getting better—and with the addition of guys like Jaime Jaquez Jr. and more recently Kel’el Ware—we’ll see a lot more versatility than we’ve had in a while. Possibly having Bam play more at the four could unlock our offense and definitely improve our defense, especially considering the positional mismatches we can create against other teams moving forward.

With all that being said, I’m excited to see where this team goes from here. With Scary Terry hopefully getting healthy and ready to go to start the season, I’m hopeful for a top-six seed by the end of the regular season, and most importantly, good health.
