Luka Dončić was just traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Honestly, I never thought this trade would happen—under any scenario. But somehow, around
midnight, Shams Charania dropped what is easily the biggest NBA news break ever on
Twitter/X.
At first, everyone on NBA Twitter thought it was fake—including the people I know. I was in pure
disbelief, calling up everyone I knew to share the news. Even now, I’m still in shock. It feels like
one of those crazy trades I’d make in NBA 2K, trying to pair LeBron James with Luka—and yes,
I’ve done that before. THIS IS INSANE, MAN!
It’s by far the biggest and most shocking trade of all time—at least by my
standards—considering there was almost no chance the Dallas Mavericks would ever trade
Luka. But here we are—it actually happened!
Shortly after the first tweet, Shams dropped another one with more details, showing where
everyone involved in the deal is headed. Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris are
headed to the Lakers, while the Mavs get Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round
draft pick. The Jazz also receive Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks to round out
the deal.
At first glance, I just thought of two words: BOX OFFICE. Luka and LeBron on the same team
seems like a fever dream—but it’s real, and we’re going to get to watch these two share the
court on a nightly basis. It won’t be the easiest adjustment right away, but let’s not take away
from the sheer fact that they are both among the greatest offensive playmakers in NBA history.
And let’s be honest with ourselves—they’re going to figure it out. It’s LeBron and Luka. It’s going
to work. But regardless, the Lakers have found their next franchise player to lead the team once
LeBron retires.
I’m just stunned. I still can’t believe this is reality—but hey, it’s real! Man, I love the NBA.
Now, onto the Mavericks’ side of things… MAN, OH MAN, WHAT THE HELL JUST
HAPPENED?!
Okay, okay—let me gather my thoughts. They just traded away the future of their franchise at 25
years old in the most stunning fashion—to the LAKERS of all teams! That’s what makes this
even crazier.
As for what Dallas is getting, they receive Anthony Davis—who, funny enough, just did an
interview with Shams where he talked about how playing alongside another big could help the
Lakers. And now? He’s heading to a team where he’ll eventually be sharing the floor with
Derrick Lively Jr. and Daniel Gafford in spurts. He got his wish, and I’m sure he’ll flourish with
that roster.

But oh man, it’s just shocking that Dallas gave up on the face of the franchise just like that. I’M
STUNNED!
Mavs president of basketball operations Nico Harrison told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon that the
team’s main motivation was simple: defense wins championships. In his eyes, this deal helps
them win now and in the future.
Kudos to him, man, because I don’t have the balls to do what he just did. That’s so much
pressure on him and the rest of the front office. This could easily turn into the biggest mistake in
NBA history… or maybe I’m just overreacting. But Luka has the talent to be the best player in
the world and was just in the Finals a year ago! IT’S INSANE!
Luka Dončić is a Laker, and Anthony Davis is a Maverick—in the year 2025. “Yes, This is real,”
just like Shams had to reiterate because the sheer shock factor had everyone in the NBA
Twitterverse losing their minds.
I love the NBA, man! What an epic way to end my Saturday night—after a great LeBron
performance and a Lakers win to make me a good $125 on a parlay I did earlier in the day.
